Imagine a magic spell or machine that could take you backwards or forwards in time. How would that feel? Would you feel confused? Scared? Excited? Think about why that would be? Because you wouldn’t be going back to a merely different time. That different time would be pretty much a different place, with its own rules, customs, and body of knowledge.

Now imagine going backwards and forwards at the same time. Think about how that would feel. Could you keep it together?

When I heard today’s song for the first time 7 years ago, I was a little bewildered and intrigued, especially at the vinyl’s picture disc. It took me a little while to figure out exactly why I liked this song, but I think I got it.

The track evokes that feeling that is almost nostalgia, but it is for a future retro time that never was, like in Blade Runner or old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cartoons from the late 80s and early 90s. It’s a weird feeling, wanting to be both immature/childish and grown-up/established. Did others feel this way? At once I wanted to own that feeling, that power and see for sure if that sound evoked the same response.

It’s a sick feeling of faux-nostalgia, but at the same time I think that the feeling, like guilt, is good for a person. At worst, it takes you out of your normal train of thought. At best it might inspire you to live up to your potential and change the future. For me the result is different each time. How about you?
